2007 – 2008

  • Many Kurumba tribesmen were brought to Chennai, taught screen printing and given a full set of materials (including exposure box) to take back.
  • A Tribal Mela was held in Udhagamandalam (Ooty) on October 4, 2007, when the Todas, Kurumbas and Kotas participated. G. Balaji’s book on Tribes of the Nilgiris – Arts & Crafts of the Kotas, Kurumbas, Irulas and Paniyas was released by the Collector and copies given to the tribes.
  • The Foundation organized exhibitions of their products like Kurumba art, Kota pottery, Toda shawls and Vaghiri bead-work, to help them find new markets. More importantly, it would ensure the preservation of their traditional arts and crafts.
