ActivitiesTraining Programme for Kurumba Artists
With financial assistance from TRIFED, a unit of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation conducted the following training programme at Mettukal Village, Kotagiri Taluk, Nilgiris.
- Three month Primary Level Training (PLT) on Kurumba art from November 4, 2011 to February 7, 2012 was organized for Kurumba tribes.
The following basics of Kurumba Tribal art were completed during the course of the training:-
Stage I
1. Freehand drawing – Pencil sketches
2. Most of them have learned to handle the basic art material including brush and colors
3. Practicing motives of various plants, animals and natural forms
In continuation, a two month Skill Development programme was initiated from the February 15, 2012.
During the Skill Development training, Mr Y. Venkatesh, artist of CPR Environmental Education Centre taught the skills of canvas preparation and glass art with natural colors.
Appreciating the initiatives, the Nilgiri District Administration provided an opportunity for live demonstration during the Annual Flower Show held at the Government Botanical Garden, Ooty.
